Foundational vocabulary that underlies the whole Pedagogy section — definitions and thinkers that appear repeatedly as standalone MCQs across FPSC/PPSC/NTS teaching tests, even though they sit outside the 4 headline Part-III topics.

I. Education

Etymology: derived from the Latin words educare or educere, meaning to bring up, raise, nourish, train, lead, or draw out.
Process: acquiring knowledge, skills, values, attitudes, beliefs, and habits, typically in a school environment through a teaching–learning process.

Key Perspectives on Education

Aristotle	The creation of a sound mind in a sound body.
Socrates	A process of self-discovery, moral growth, and wisdom.
Plato	The capacity to feel pleasure and pain at the right moment.
John Dewey	Developing all individual capacities to control the environment and fulfill one's responsibilities.

II. Learning

Nature: a continuous, lifelong process of acquiring new knowledge, skills, and competencies.
Scope: extends beyond formal schooling, throughout an individual's life.
Definition: a permanent or positive change in behavior (the standard psychological definition used in Educational Psychology).
Example: A student who once counted on fingers can now add two-digit numbers mentally, even weeks later — a lasting change, so it counts as learning.
Quote: Albert Einstein — "Once you stop learning, you start dying."

III. Pedagogy

Definition: the art, science, and profession of teaching.
Focus: the study of methods, principles, and techniques used to teach students — i.e., how teaching and learning happen, not just what is taught.
Example: Two teachers cover the same Math chapter, but one uses group discussion while the other uses lecture — that difference in approach is pedagogy at work.

IV. Teaching

Process: a purposeful act of sharing knowledge, skills, information, or guidance from a skilled teacher to a student.

Key Aspects of Teaching

Art of Facilitation: guiding learners, creating environments where they can explore, inquire, and construct understanding themselves rather than only receiving information.
