Islamic worship is never an isolated ritual disconnected from worldly life — each pillar is simultaneously a training ground (Tarbiyah) producing a disciplined, compassionate and socially responsible citizen. This union of Ibadah and Mu'amalah is one of the most distinctive aspects of Islam (cross-reference Distinctive Aspects of Islam).
